Conor McGregor announced earlier this month that he had retired, and his coach has no reason to believe that this is not true.
In a recent video live chat (recorded by YouTube user MMA World), John Kavanagh was asked about the former UFC double champion, who allegedly refrained from mixed martial arts.
“Is Conor retired?” Said Kavanagh. “Yes, he’s as far as I can tell. He said that, didn’t he? “
A subsequent comment suggested that Kavanagh is the only person who can convince McGregor (22-4 MMA, 10-2 UFC) to fight again. Kavanagh, the head coach of SBG Ireland, laughed at this thought and disagreed.
“I can’t convince Conor to do shit,” said Kavanagh. “Conor will tell Conor what he will do. And who knows? Who knows what will happen in the future. But he’s retired at the moment. “
McGregor last competed at UFC 246 in January against former title challenger Donald Cerrone. After 15 months out of the cage, McGregor returned triumphantly and finished Cerrone in Round 1 with a goal in just 40 seconds.
The win brought McGregor back to the Victory Column after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018 against UFC 229.
Four months later, on June 6, at the end of UFC 250, McGregor tweeted that he was retiring from MMA. It was not the first time that McGregor suddenly retired on social media. Both previous retirements turned out to be short-lived or simply non-existent.
