“If you want to play in the Champions League, it’s OK for us”: the green light from Dortmund to Meunier to end the season in Paris

Belgian international Thomas Meunier could finally play in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with Paris SG despite his transfer this week to Borussia Dortmund, said the boss of the German club on Sunday.

If a player wants something like this, we should try to do it

“We said to him: ‘If you want to play in the Champions League, it’s OK for us'”, explained Hans-Joachim Watzke during the Sunday show Doppelpass on the TV channel Sport1. “The quarter-finals of the Champions League is a hell of a level of football. If he wishes, we will have to negotiate the details with Paris. He is still thinking and we will try to resolve this question with Paris”, continued the director general of Borussia, eliminated from the C1 in March by PSG at the stage of the round of 16.

“He has had such a long break that he is tired of being on vacation. He is rested and could join us after the Champions League matches. It would complicate our preparation a bit, but if a player wants something like that, we must try to do it “, added the German leader. For its part, the Red Devil seems to have already acted well his departure from PSG by posting pungent farewells addressed to those who criticized him on social networks.

Meunier, 28, signed a four-year contract with Dortmund, Bayern Munich’s dolphin. The ex-player of Club Bruges, semi-finalist of the last World Cup with Belgium, joined Paris SG in 2016 and won three titles of champion of France with the club of the French capital, as well as two editions of the Coupe de France.

His contract with Paris SG expired June 30. He did not wish to extend it for a few weeks, until his club played its Champions League quarter-final on August 12, or even the semi-final and the final of the queen test, as well as the finals of the Coupe de la Ligue and the Coupe de France at the end of July.
