Get the latest on Andre Wisdom’s status as Derby County’s chief

Stephen Pearce, CEO of Derby County, has released an update on Andre Wisdom, who was the victim of a knife attack last weekend.

Wisdom is no longer in the intensive care unit and is recovering after surgery in a general hospital ward.

The 27-year-old defender was stabbed to death on a Liverpool street in the early morning of Sunday in an “unprovoked attack and robbery”.

He was attacked when he returned to his car after visiting relatives.

Despite his stab wounds, allegedly on the head and buttocks, Wisdom is reported to have returned to his car and returned to his home in St. Helens, about 18 km and a 30-minute drive away, before going to the hospital.

“Thank god he’s a very lucky guy,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

“He is now in intensive care, recovering in the hospital, and we hope to get him out, get it back, and support him as soon as we can.

“We do not yet know the full extent of his injuries, it is early, but we hope that they will not last too long.

“But he’s really lucky.

“He underwent surgery on Sunday and is now recovering in the general ward. Hopefully he will be out very soon.

“We were in regular contact and talk to his family members. We will support him in every possible way.

“Andre has been with us for a long time, he is very much part of the Derby County family and we all take care of each other.”
