Genk confirms the arrival of Onuachu and Kouassi after the coronavirus fracture

The Nigerian international and Ivorian have returned to the Luminus Arena after traveling to their respective countries due to Covid-19

Belgian first division club Genk has announced the arrival of its African stars Paul Onuachu and Eboue Kouassi.

The duo left the Luminus Arena for their home countries in May after the outbreak of the corona virus, which forced football activities into a break.

Onuachu joined Blue-White from the Danish Midtjylland team last summer and has become an important part of Hannes Wolf’s team.

The Nigerian international scored 10 goals and provided two assists in the recently ended 2019-20 season, placing his team in seventh place.

Kouassi teamed up with Blue-White, loaned by Scottish giants Celtic, in January and showed convincing shows that earned him a permanent contract.

Genk confirmed that the Ivorian had returned to the Luminus Arena on Thursday while Onuachu arrived on Saturday.

“Paul Onuachu and Eboue Kouassi are back in Genk after staying in their home country – Nigeria and Ivory Coast,” says the club’s website.

“Flying back from Europe to Europe in corona times was anything but obvious.

“Onuachu trained until mid-May and then went to Nigeria. In the night from Friday to Saturday, he returned to Genk via Paris.

“After the group training ended, Eboue Kouassi continued to train individually for a while before flying to his home country. He has been back in our country since Thursday evening. “

The African stars have teamed up with the rest of the squad to prepare for the 2020-21 season ahead of their preparatory games.

Onuachu, who started his career at Ebedei in Nigeria, moved to Denmark in 2012 and teamed up with Midtjylland.

The 26-year-old striker scored 52 goals in 135 league games during his seven-year stay at the MCH Arena.

The impressive performances immediately caught the eye of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, who called the lanky striker in March 2019.

The striker made his West African debut against Egypt in a friendly and has now played six times for the team.

He was part of the Super Eagles team that finished third in the 2019 African Nations Cup in Egypt and hopes to continue his good performance for his club to enjoy more playing time with the national team.
