Three months after the last draw, the English Cup semi-final will take place today after a dramatic theater weekend.

Manchester United left late to beat Norwich by ten men in overtime at Carrow Road, while an injured goal by Dani Ceballos sent Arsenal to the semifinals after passing Sheffield United 2-1.

Drawing

For those who tune into the game, make sure to stay on hold for the break because Alan Shearer will draw the cup for the English Cup semi-finals.

These games are scheduled to be played at Wembley on the weekend of July 18-19, with the final marked for August 1st – six days after the last day of the Premier League season.

With some big names already in the hat, we will soon find out if Newcastle or Manchester City will join them.

5 minutes: The city dominated from here and Newcastle must resist strong pressure.

That said, Allan Saint-Maximin has just twirled the edge of his own box, so maybe he doesn’t feel the pressure!

2 minutes: Some concern ahead of time for City, as Laporte was hit with a head injury after colliding with Carroll.

It’s nice to see the Frenchman get back on his feet, especially after what happened with Eric Garcia.

KICK OFF

KICK OFF!

We are going on Tyneside.

It’s almost time for kick-off in the empty St James’ Park, which would surely be roaring if the fans were here.

Cheers to key workers for their extraordinary response during the coronavirus pandemic and now kneel for Black Lives Matter. Such power, these players hold, and it’s nice to see them use their platform to send the right message.

Even the best players in the world like Kevin De Bruyne can still improve, at least in the eyes of Pep Guardiola.

The three confirmed semi-finalists won the competition most of the time with each other, with Arsenal holding the record with triumphs of 13 cups.

Manchester United have 12, its latest coming in 2016, while Chelsea has recovered ground by winning the FA Cup six times since the Millennium (2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2018).

Newcastle and Manchester City each have six titles, although the Magpies have not won this competition since 1955.

FA Cup Results

In case I lost him today, Arsenal hit a winner injury to see Sheffield United 2-1 on Bramall Lane.

They will be joined in the semi-finals by Chelsea, who scored a narrow 1-0 win over Leicester thanks to Ross Barkley’s strike.

Manchester United also did some hard work for their quarterfinal, demanding a 118-minute strike from Harry Maguire in Norwich to 10 men on Carrow Road yesterday.

Three games, three away wins. Will City make it four tonight?

The selection of Claudio Bravo on goal is surprising by Pep Guardiola, especially considering how the Catalan has underlined the importance of this FA Cup clash.

The Chilean participated in the previous three rounds of the competition, but with the Premier League officially out of reach, City will take this competition seriously.

The 37-year-old has not been at his best for some time and City has conceded 16 goals in his 16 appearances this season. Newcastle will surely imagine their chances of causing discomfort.

Newcastle can end up sterile?

Steve Bruce is desperate to be the man to end the Newcastle domestic trophy drought, which dates back to before his birth.

The 59-year-old was a ball boy at Wembley in 1976, when the Magpies lost to Manchester City in the League Cup final two years after he was unable to get a ticket for the FA Cup’s final defeat against Liverpool.

The last piece of household silverware that the club collected in 1955 and Brice said: “It’s really remarkable, really. It’s been such a long time – this is even before I was around.

“That’s right, that’s why there has always been that outcry. How can a club of this stature pass so long without winning anything? This must be the priority, whoever is sitting in this chair, is the task he must have. Can they win something? Can the club win something?

“Maybe it will be this year. We have given ourselves a wonderful opportunity. Who knows? Let’s see.”

What did Guardiola say

Pep Guardiola is wary of the threat that Newcastle poses today …

“Right now it’s a priority because it’s the next game and we can get Wembley back in the semifinals. I saw Newcastle and they have the weapons to punish us.

“The important thing is this game and after you can finish the Premier League in the best possible way, finish second, and then we have time to prepare for (Real) Madrid.”

The draw will be streamed on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK and on the official FA Cup Facebook page for foreign viewers.
