Chelsea’s brand new addition, Timo Werner, has shown that Frank Lampard’s personal touch convinced him to move to Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old officially becomes a blues player on July 1 after the club signed a £ 53m deal for him earlier this month.

Werner’s double pack in his last appearance for RB Leipzig on Saturday made him the club’s top scorer with 95 goals.

During the negotiations to bring the German international to West London, Lampard ensured that the player felt valued and would be an important part of his future plans for the club.

“The discussions with the Chelsea board were so good that I ultimately chose them,” said Werner Sky Germany.

“Above all, Frank Lampard stood behind me and really wanted me to know that I can feel as comfortable when visiting Chelsea as I do in Leipzig.

In the conversations with me, the trainer often emphasized how much he wanted me, how much he valued me as a person.

“Of course it’s hard to give up an oasis of wellbeing like I’ve had in Leipzig for years, but you can only make a career if you take the next step.

‘This season was the crossroads, otherwise I would always have stayed in Leipzig.

“I decided on something new and hope that my form will continue like this.”

Werner’s two goals in the 2-1 win over Augsburg over the weekend brought him 28 for the season, and the German international attributes his improvement to his coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“I was accepted into Leipzig like never before in my career,” added Werner.

‘No matter which coach was responsible, I always had supporters here

“Now there is Julian, who is a giant again and has improved me significantly.”
