Chad Campbell, 3 Korn Ferry players test positive for COVID-19

PGA Tour veteran Chad Campbell has withdrawn from the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week after testing positive for COVID-19, as well as three Korn Ferry Tour players scheduled for the TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes.

The 46-year-old Campbell was the first substitute for the 156 man field in Detroit, but was tested positive as part of the pre-tournament screening process. He has not played since missing the Colonial cut three weeks ago and will now enter a phase of self-isolation as Alex Cejka rises to become the first deputy.

Campbell has had four tour wins, including the 2003 Tour Championship, and lost in a 2009 playoff at the Masters. He is the sixth PGA Tour player to test positive for COVID-19 in the past two weeks with Nick Watney, Cameron Champ, Denny McCarthy, Dylan Frittelli and Harris English.

“While the positive test result is annoying, I am incredibly grateful to be asymptomatic and physically comfortable, and my thoughts are with anyone directly or indirectly concerned with COVID,” said Campbell.

In addition to Campbell’s result, the tour announced that three players – Brandon Wu, Taylor Montgomery and Jonathan Hodge – were all tested positive for this week’s Korn Ferry event, which starts on Wednesday. They are the first Korn Ferry players to have tested positive as part of the on-site screening process, which has tested 247 players since June 11.

Montgomery missed the cut at each of the two Korn Ferry events in Florida earlier this month, while Hodge ended T-62 at TPC Sawgrass three weeks ago. Wu has not played a tour-approved event since AT & T Pebble Beach’s pro-am in February.
