Cam Newton is reportedly signing a 1-year contract with New England Patriots

It seems that Cam Newton has found a new home – with a team that has just given up on its megastar quarterback.

The former NFL MVP has signed a 1-year contract with the New England Patriots, ESPN and NFL Network reported. The deal is said to be worth up to $ 7.5 million.

Newton, number 1 in the 2011 NFL Draft, led the Carolina Panthers to three direct NFC South titles from 2013 to 2015 and a Super Bowl appearance in the 2015 season when he was awarded the league’s MVP. He also earned three pro bowls in nine seasons.

Newton has missed 16 regular season games in the past two years due to a foot injury that required surgery. He also had several shoulder surgeries in his career.

Newton was to take on a star role in New England as the successor to future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady, who left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier in the off-season.

Newton, Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham are expected to be the quarterbacks on the squad when the training camp begins.
