Austria can fix first place with victory against Altach

Altach wants to do Austria again in the “prelude” for the European Cup duel that takes place a week later.

If the Vorarlbergers who are still undefeated in the qualification group succeed on Tuesday evening (8.30 p.m. in the Sport24-LIVE ticker) a home win over the Viennese, the home right beckons in the play-off semi-final on July 8th. At the Austria, improvement was praised after the recent appearance.

“Vorarlberg is a beautiful state, but we want to travel there for the last time this season on Tuesday,” said Austria coach Christian Ilzer before the penultimate game of the qualifying group. The wish is also understandable in terms of statistics: Austria has not won seven games in Altach since October 2015. Five of them lost the violets, which are currently two meters ahead of Altach. The western Austrians also won the latest meeting.

Winning streak followed Altach defeat by the violets

The Altacher’s 2-0 away win three weeks ago drove Austria deep, after which the Viennese posted four wins in a row. They destroyed this run at the weekend with a desolate summer kick against St. Pölten (2: 5). Ilzer was not very pleased. “Our appearance has to be 180 degrees different than on Saturday, everybody is aware of that,” he said. Ilzer also stated that he himself did not see the game in Altach as a final for first place in the qualification group. The play-off will “have a completely different character,” said the Styrian.

Alex Pastoor also didn’t want to know much about a game with trend-setting character. “It doesn’t matter in terms of sport whether we play the play-off game away or at home,” said the Dutchman. His team always wanted to play the same way – and of course win every game. Control is the magic word that Pastoor always cites. “This is also a reason why there are no major outliers in our results,” said Altachs coach.

Altach still unbeaten

Altach is certainly the most stable team in the lower half of the table. Of eight games after the Corona break, the Rheindörfler won only three, but have not yet been defeated in five 1-1 draws. Altach did not concede more than one goal per game in this phase. In Vienna, a lightning bolt by Daniel Nussbaumer paved the way to victory after 21 seconds. Pastoor warned of the opponent’s individual class. “Austria has a number of players in their ranks who play poorly and can still choose a game. I can give Monein as an example,” he explained. The team unity speaks for his team.

The left-back Emir Karic, who was spared on the weekend, should be back in Altach. Emanuel Schreiner does not seem to be fully fit after a knock on the ankle. At Austria, left-back Andreas Poulsen returned to team training. The Dane could make a comeback in the home game against Mattersburg. Altach is still a guest in St. Pölten on Saturday.
