Arsenal morning headlines while Edu talks about the value of David Luiz and the Dutch striker connected

Good morning, Arsenal fans. Here are the morning headlines for Monday 15 June.

Because Edu wants David Luiz to stay at Arsenal

The ball remains on the Arsenal pitch for David Luiz’s contract, but the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic has complicated matters for player and club.

The Gunners have the option to automatically trigger a 12-month extension for the central defender, whose initial one-year contract expires at the end of June. But such an arrangement would ensure that Luiz stays on £ 125,000 a week.

Therefore, negotiations are underway, initially to extend Luiz’s agreement to the new, subsequent end of the 2019/20 season, and technical director Edu has explained why he is eager to keep the veteran around.

“David is more experienced and very used to the championship. He is a boy who can really help in everyday life on and off the pitch, as he did,” Edu said of the 33 year old.

“I already knew him well because I had to be with him on the national team when I was coordinator and it went very well.”

Luiz has played 25 Premier League games for Arsenal this season, scoring twice since joining Chelsea last summer.

Kluivert connected as options considered at the exit of Mkhitaryan

Arsenal could get a discount on Roma striker Justin Kluivert as part of an agreement that brings Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Olympic Stadium.

Mkhitaryan has been on loan in Rome this season, intervening with six goals and three second assists official Serie A numbersand both the player and the club are willing to make the move permanent.

Second Gazzetta dello Sport, through mail, talks are underway between Arsenal and Rome on a partial exchange agreement that would see the Gunners pay around £ 20 million plus Mkhitaryan for the Dutchman.

Kluivert, 21, joined Roma from Ajax in 2018 after an 11-goal season for the club in which his father Patrick won a Champions League title.

However, he has only played 18 times in the league this term and reports in Italy suggest that – despite being worth more than £ 30 million – the Giallorossi would be ready to leave him as part of an agreement for Mkhitaryan.

Silva’s comments give hope to Arsenal

Brazilian defender Thiago Silva will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer after almost a decade in the French capital, but intends to remain in Europe.

The 35-year-old has been linked with a return to Fluminense in his homeland, but comments made by the defender will come as a push to Arsenal, which is one of several major European clubs linked to a hit.
