Atlético Madrid vs. Alavés – Party Report – June 27, 2020

MADRID (EFE) – Atlético de Madrid extended their advantage in third place in LaLiga Santander to four points over Sevilla, fourth, when they defeated Alavés 2-1 in Wanda Metropolitano with goals from Saúl Ñíguez and Diego Costa de penalty, while another maximum penalty gave his goal to Alavesista Joselu Mato.

After a first half of a flat rojiblanco dominance without shots between the three poles, Saúl brought down the Alavés resistance with a header in the 59th minute after a free kick by Englishman Kieran Trippier; and Diego Costa added the second in the 73rd scoring a penalty caused by Marcos Llorente. Joselu Mato scored Alavés’ goal in a penalty by Koke Resurrección.

With this victory, Atlético has 58 points, four over Sevilla, who tied this Friday against Valladolid (1-1) and nine over Getafe, fifth and with one game less, the one they have to face this seventh on Sunday, Real Sociedad, when they will also play the sixth against the eighth at Villarreal-Valencia.
