Arsenal’s “huge mistake” that will affect Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contractual negotiations

Match of the Day expert Alan Shearer believes Arsenal will not be able to tie star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s frontman to a new contract.

Aubameyang is out of contract next summer and there are doubts that it might be sold this summer or that he will be allowed to leave for free after the next season if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

Shearer believes that this could be the case because of the Gunners’ inability to offer Gabon a contract similar to Mesut Ozil.

“When you look at Aubameyang’s situation with his contract, I don’t see him signing a contract there,” said the former Newcastle striker in Match of the Day.

“He will look at Mesut Ozil’s salary and say ‘ok, give me that.’ There is no way they can give it to him, it was a big mistake to give Mesut Ozil the salary, he can’t even enter the Brighton team.

“It’s one thing in Manchester City, but when you go to Brighton and you know you have to be creative, he can’t even join the team, and it’s not just this manager who didn’t choose him.”
