A Premier League title triumph for the Reds this season means they now have up to 19 flagship crowns, one behind their Northwest rivals
Manchester United cannot allow Liverpool to match their title record and “dominate again”, says Dimitar Berbatov, with the Red Devils urged to fight for the right to remain on their “perch”.
Sir Alex Ferguson carried those of Old Trafford to the top of a domestic tree, with 13 Premier League crowns secured during his iconic reign.
That remarkable haul saw United’s lead over their Anfield rivals and a 20-game record.
Liverpool ended in a triumph of the Red Devils with their dominant performances in 2019-20.
Many have suggested that another dynasty is put together by Jurgen Klopp, with the potential that many other successes can be enjoyed by the current kings of English football.
Berbatov, who helped United win two titles during his time at Old Trafford, hopes Merseyside men can be dismissed until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Red Devils return to contention for important honors.
“When I was an Old Trafford player, we thought United’s success would last forever, Liverpool is now dangerously close to the United record, and I’m sure they would love to match it,” said Berbatov Betfair.
“I’m not at United anymore, I can’t stop it from happening, but I hope current players will see Liverpool approach and try to make sure it never happens.
“They have suffered and waited so long, the way they play now that the way they have won will give them more ambition to win more. Klopp can make them title contenders for years to come.
“The kids from the United States shouldn’t need a message from anyone to tell them, they can’t allow them to match the record and dominate again, if they do then we have a problem.
“They will have seen Liverpool, they will know they are close to the record and they must do everything to prevent this from happening.

“You want to be on top of yourself and not let anyone take control, so they need to increase their intensity. United players can’t let Liverpool detach them from the perch we fought so hard to take as ours. “
The last crown of the United Premier League was secured in 2013, while Ferguson was preparing to retire.
They have since found themselves far from the rhythm, but there are believed to have been signs of encouragement under Solskjaer as he continues to oversee a long-term reconstruction project at the Theater of Dreams.
