The First Division referee who is an aerospace engineer

Over the years, the presence of women in soccer begins to be more and more constant; even, women are occupying the most important places in world football.

However, salaries have not been fully equal, so many have to study a career on par with sports.

Alicia Espinosa, the referee who is an aerospace engineer

One of those cases is that of Alicia Espinosa Ríos, who in addition to being an arbitrator is an aerospace engineer.

His career has surprised the world of football, as it is one of the most complex in its field.

But soccer is a passion that has accompanied her all her life, which is why she now serves as a whistler in the Spanish Women’s First Division.

At 23 years old, Alicia is one of the most prominent Nazarene in the contest, although she is still considered a promise.

Since she was little she was linked to sports; in fact, her father involved her in different disciplines, such as taekwondo, judo, and football.

When Espinosa was studying high school, he played soccer and that was where his taste for refereeing was born.

In October 2020, his golden opportunity arrived and his debut in the Maximum Circuit arrived, a dream that became reality.

“I could’nt believe it. It was absolute happiness, like fulfilling a dream. It took me many months to leave the house, I was afraid of catching it. The Madrid Committee had shortlisted me as the candidate to climb many months ago and I did not want to fail.

“Behind each game there are many hours of preparation that are not seen. We look at everything, it is very important to position ourselves better on the field and see where we have to put the focus. I would love to become a FIFA referee. But for now, I am satisfied with continuing to enjoy game by game and not relegation, “he said.

Her story will inspire many women, so she hopes to be an example of self-improvement for new generations.
