Athletes from Graneros and Rancagua have secured more than 13 medals for the O’Higgins Region at the National Grand Final of the School Sports Games held in the Valparaíso Region. The tournament features participation from more than 200,000 young athletes representing nearly 3,000 educational establishments across Chile, according to local sports reporting.

Lucía Barriga Dominates Swimming Events for Graneros

Swimming emerged as a primary medal source for the regional delegation, anchored by the performance of Lucía Barriga. Representing the commune of Graneros and the Club O’Higgins, Barriga captured the gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke event with a time of 31 seconds and 92 centésimas. She followed that performance by securing a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle.

Cristóbal Vera Secures Judo Bronze for Rancagua

Combat sports also contributed to the O’Higgins medal count as judoka Cristóbal Vera earned a spot on the podium. A student at the Colegio Moisés Mussa in Rancagua, Vera competed alongside his school team in the under-55 kilogram weight category. He claimed the third-place finish, taking home the bronze medal in the national competition.

O’Higgins Delegation Background at the National Games

The O’Higgins regional delegation consists of more than 160 athletes competing across multiple disciplines in the Valparaíso Region. Operating under the official event motto “Aquí empieza todo” (“Here everything begins”), the nationwide School Sports Games encompass chess, conventional and adapted athletics, handball, basketball, cycling, futsal, judo, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, and volleyball. Regional competitors have combined individual podium finishes with collective results across both team and solo sports.
