Emerging from the arrival gate with gold around her neck, An Se-young reflected on the journey that brought her back to the top of the podium.

“I was so happy to be able to hear the Aegukga [South Korean national anthem] in Japan, and it was so wonderful to be able to keep the promise I made,” An said during her arrival interview.

Breaking a 24-Year Drought in Women’s Doubles

While An anchored the singles dominance, the pairing of Lee So-hee and Baek Ha-na delivered a milestone moment for South Korean badminton by securing the women’s doubles gold medal—ending a 24-year title drought for the nation in that specific event at the Games.

Reflecting on the magnitude of their victory, Lee and Baek admitted the achievement surpassed their pre-tournament expectations. “We thought, ‘Is it even possible to win a gold medal in women’s doubles at the Asian Games?’ We never imagined we would be wearing this gold medal,” they shared. They credited the overwhelming backing of fans for pushing them through.

Emerging Talent and Leadership Outlook

The delegation’s success extended beyond the top of the podium. Men’s singles competitor Yoo Tae-bin claimed a bronze medal—South Korea’s first in the discipline at the Games in 16 years—after defeating several higher-ranked opponents. Yoo indicated his sights are already set on reaching even greater heights.

National team head coach Park Joo-bong praised the athletes for displaying top-tier competitive form. Park emphasized that the squad will continue to write new records moving forward.
