The municipal sports schools in Marín have registered a record 977 people for the new academic season, representing an increase of 81 participants compared to the previous year, according to local government figures. Classes across the program’s diverse individual, team, and water-based disciplines begin on October 1.
Expanding Access Through Low Enrollment Fees
To ensure that financial capacity does not act as a barrier to sports participation, the local government has maintained an annual fee of just 55 euros per participant. This pricing structure underpins the municipal strategy to encourage active lifestyles and physical education. The program runs from October 1 through May 31, with registration fees paid directly to the respective organizing clubs and sports entities.
Councillor de Deportes Antonio Traba outlined the scope of the offering during preparations for the academic term, noting that the initiative relies on partnerships with local clubs to manage instruction and facilities. Registration for the programs opened with sign-up windows running from September 7 to 18 via the town hall’s official channels and participating organizations.
Diverse Athletic and Maritime Disciplines
The program encompasses a wide array of sporting options split between land-based venues and the coastal waters of Marín. Participants can choose from traditional team and individual sports such as athletics, basketball, boxing, tennis, football, mountain biking (BTT), futsal, padel, rhythmic gymnastics, taekwondo, judo, hockey, acrobatic gymnastics, swimming, and volleyball.

Given the coastal geography of the municipality, maritime and water sports form a core component of the curriculum. Partner organizations facilitate instruction in canoeing, sailing, rowing, and paddle surf, utilizing local harbor and beach locations including the Port of Marín, the Port of Aguete, and Praia de Aguete.
Facility Upgrades Accommodate Growing Roster
To support the rising enrollment figures and ensure adequate training conditions, the town hall has directed investments toward upgrading municipal athletic infrastructure. Recent renovation projects have modernized key venues such as the pavilions of Cañota and Sequelo, alongside established facilities like Pavillón da Raña and local school gymnasiums. These improvements allow the participating clubs to conduct training sessions throughout the academic year.
