The Rafa Nadal Academy celebrated its 10th anniversary with a unique public appearance from its founder. It marked the first time Rafael Nadal has stepped on a tennis court with a racket in hand since his retirement from professional tennis.
Rafa Nadal Steps Back Onto the Court for Academy’s Milestone
To commemorate the milestone, the organization partnered with the architecture and design firm Nagami to craft a custom commemorative trophy bridging elite sport and advanced industrial manufacturing.
Translating an Icon’s Legacy into Recycled Plastic
Nagami, a Spanish design firm recognized for its large-scale robotic 3D printing capabilities, built the trophy using recycled plastics as part of a shared corporate focus on the circular economy.
The physical structure of the award traces a deliberate geometric transition. It begins with an octogonal base shaped to mirror the grip of a tennis racket, then sweeps upward into the contour of the stylized “bull” logo associated with Nadal. Designers sought to translate the physical intensity and precision of the playing style into digital fabrication techniques. By repurposing plastic waste that would otherwise enter the waste stream, the production process aligns with Nagami’s operating philosophy of transforming discarded material into functional, high-value art objects.
Environmental Stewardship Meets High-Performance Training
The collaboration between the design studio and the training center centers on parallel institutional goals regarding environmental stewardship.

The academy and Nagami are both committed to the need to protect the environment and generate a positive impact through their respective fields. By commissioning a 3D-printed trophy utilizing recycled polymers, the academy highlighted industrial innovation during a landmark weekend for the facility.
Public Celebrations and Youth Exhibitions
Academy officials organized presentations over the anniversary weekend to mark a decade of operations.
