The inauguration ceremony took place at the university's Student Residence Hall 8, marking a formal entry into collegiate tennis competition after securing approval from the university's athletic committee.
Team Structure and Leadership
Operating under the slogan “The first serve of challenge, in the name of Hallym,” the newly formed roster features five student-athletes. The squad includes third-year student Park I-bin, second-year students Wang Seo-young and Choi On-ah, and first-year students Shin Seo-hyun and Yang Woo-jung. Head coach Lee Jun-hee and coach Park Su-hyun lead the technical staff.
The university laid the groundwork for the program beginning with student admissions in 2024, followed by additional recruitment phases. University officials plan to expand the combined athletic framework to include six-member rosters for both men’s and women’s squads, maintaining a strict balance between athletic performance management and academic progression.
Financial Support and Institutional Investment
The program also integrates joint training sessions with high school squads and corporate workplace teams to accelerate match-play experience.
During the launch event, regional athletic organizations and alumni associations contributed a combined 21.3 million won in support funds. Contributions included 10 million won from the Gangwon State Sports Council, 5 million won from the Chuncheon City Sports Council, and 3 million won from the athletic department’s alumni association.
Competitive Goals and Regional Development
The program enters collegiate competition with established momentum. Hallym’s female student-athletes secured a third-place finish in the women’s singles division at the National Sports Festival, alongside subsequent runner-up finishes and singles third-place results in various tournaments.
The administration has set a target for the team to consistently challenge for top-tier standings in national competitions by the year 2028.
