Pino Maddaloni at #BeActive MultiSport Village: Sport as a School of Life and Values

Olympic judo champion Pino Maddaloni addressed a crowd of roughly 3,000 students at the Villa Comunale in Naples on Sept. 25, 2026, anchoring the inauguration of the #BeActive MultiSport Village during the European Week of Sport. Speaking just steps from the America’s Cup race course, the Sydney 2000 gold medalist and Sport e Salute Illumina team member detailed how competitive discipline translates into life experience.

Sport as a School of Life and Core Values

Maddaloni emphasized the educational capacity of athletic training, characterizing it as an essential vehicle for discipline, joy, and social cohesion. “Grazie allo sport abbiamo imparato a cadere e a rialzarci.”

The Italian judoka also noted the prominence of hosting the European Week of Sport hub in Naples, highlighting the visibility brought to the city alongside the nautical events.

A Personal Path from the Northern Outskirts of Naples

Drawing on his upbringing in the northern suburbs of Naples, Maddaloni framed his athletic career as a pathway of personal growth rather than a mere collection of competitive hardware.

Adult Responsibility and Encouraging Youthful Curiosity

As a parent, Maddaloni stressed the obligation adults hold to invest time and attention in younger generations.

Concluding his remarks to the student audience, the Olympic champion urged children to maintain an inquisitive mindset.
