Real Avilés Industrial has officially restructured its executive offices with the appointment of David Alonso Mata as the club’s new director of operations and commercial, according to club announcements reported across regional media. Born in Oviedo in 1983, Mata steps into the role at Estadio Suárez Puerta to steer internal processes, streamline operations, and expand commercial avenues for the Asturias club both locally and nationally.
A Proven Executive Background in Asturian Football
Mata returns to Asturian football following a stint as general director at Unionistas de Salamanca in Primera RFEF, a position he held from the summer of 2025 until April 2026, when both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract. Prior to his work in Salamanca, Mata spent 16 years embedded within Real Oviedo. He began his career at Oviedo at age 23 as the club’s press chief from 2006 to 2014 before transitioning into the gerente role from 2014 through 2022, overseeing operations during the period leading up to the club’s sale to Grupo Pachuca.
Inside the Revised Avilés Organizational Chart
Mata’s arrival at Estadio Suárez Puerta fortifies a broad administrative hierarchy operating under club owner and president Diego Baeza. The management team features club counselors Francisco Rodríguez Estrada—who also serves as president of club sponsor Fresamex—and Lei Han, an executive with professional football experience in Spain and China connected to Wanda. Pedro Arboleya functions as the club’s general director, while Francisco Rodríguez Estrada handles international relations, and Francisco Rodríguez Taylor manages digital transformation.
On the athletic side, the department is directed by sports chief Miguel Linares, alongside technical secretary Antonio Cruz, youth academy director Matías Vigil, women’s football director Daniel Lozano, and field football coordinator Sergio Martín. Additional administrative and media roles are filled by communications lead Daniel Blanco, audiovisual technician Felipe Vigil, graphic designer Davi Rogerio Campos ‘Doca’, photographer Paula Sanz, administrative staff Víctor M. Díaz and Sergio Álvarez, and commercial assistant Aurea Facal.
Stades Infrastructure Concerns and Regional Tensions
The appointment arrives amid friction between club leadership, the Avilés City Council, and the regional government of Asturias. President Diego Baeza recently voiced sharp frustration over delays and complications surrounding the administrative concession for Estadio Suárez Puerta, stating publicly that he refuses to endure further bureaucratic hurdles without long-term security. Baeza estimated that the club faces roughly 300,000 euros in necessary outlays for electrical installations and public restroom replacements, noting the difficulty of making substantial capital improvements on municipal property without guaranteed tenure.

Simultaneously, tensions emerged regarding regional promotion after Asturian President Adrián Barbón backed promotional campaigns featuring Real Oviedo and Sporting de Gijón under the “Asturias, paraíso natural” banner. Baeza publicly emphasized Real Avilés’ own commitment to carrying the regional identity across Spain on their match shirts, illustrating a broader push by ownership to elevate the club’s profile across all fronts.
