Joanna Jędrzejczyk learned of her former fiancé’s infidelity through a direct phone call from the other woman, rather than from her partner. The former UFC strawweight champion opened up about the end of her relationship with footballer Przemysław Buta as she transitions into a prominent role competing on television entertainment programs.
A Late-Night Phone Call Shatters an Eight-Year Engagement
The couple had spent eight years together, and the sports star accepted a marriage proposal in 2016. Cracks began to show as her partner distanced himself and ducked straightforward conversations about their future. Jędrzejczyk tried to salvage the partnership before the betrayal came to light entirely on someone else’s terms. “Zadzwoniła do mnie ta kobieta, opowiedziała o wszystkim,” Jędrzejczyk stated, detailing how the other woman came forward while her fiancé lacked the courage to confess.
Repeated Reconciliation Attempts and a Second Split
Even after the betrayal, the former fighter admitted she tried to reconcile with her partner multiple times before ultimately calling off the engagement. That split was followed in 2019 by a relationship with former volleyball player and coach Mateusz Zarankiewicz, which also concluded without a wedding.
Speaking with media personalities, the 37-year-old athlete noted that differing life goals drove the separation. Maintaining a demanding career while pursuing traditional family aspirations created friction in her personal life.
A Historic Legacy Forged Inside the Octagon
Long before her personal life made headlines, Jędrzejczyk cemented her status as a combat sports pioneer. She captured the UFC strawweight title in 2015 and successfully defended it five times.

She finished her professional mixed martial arts career with a record of 16 wins and 5 losses before stepping away from active competition in 2022. Her accomplishments earned her an induction into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2024 as the second woman in the organization’s history to receive the honor. She received an additional induction for her bout against Zhang Weili at UFC 248.
Stepping Into the Spotlight on Reality Television
Leaving the octagon behind did not mean retreating from the public eye. Jędrzejczyk currently participates in the 19th edition of the television dance competition “Tańca z Gwiazdami,” where she performs alongside partner Kamil Kuroczko.
Reflecting on her experiences outside of sports, Jędrzejczyk noted that public visibility and accumulated success present ongoing challenges in establishing trust in personal relationships. She remains focused on her current television appearances and public engagements, continuing to share insights into the personal hurdles she faced following her departure from professional mixed martial arts competition.
