Speaking to reporters ahead of his departure from Buenos Aires, the former River Plate boss confirmed that he is set to be presented in Quito this Thursday, taking over the reins following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup cycle.
A New Chapter for Gallardo and Ecuador Football
The move marks a significant shift for Gallardo, who spent the vast majority of his decorated coaching career managing club sides, most notably guiding River Plate through an era of domestic and international dominance. Transitioning to national team management means confronting a completely different daily rhythm, featuring compressed player concentration windows and roster construction spanning multiple international leagues.
