The registration process for the Escuelas Deportivas Municipales (EDM) got underway on Tuesday, Sept. 1, starting at 8:00 a.m. local time, according to municipal announcements. City officials confirmed that interested participants have until Sept. 7 at 23:59 to complete their filings exclusively through the electronic headquarters on the official municipal sports website.
The city has mapped out a strict calendar for the selection process following the close of applications. A provisional list of applicants will be published on Sept. 9, leaving a window for corrections through Sept. 11. The definitive list is scheduled for release on Sept. 14. If required by high demand, a public draw will take place on Sept. 15 at 9:00 a.m. local time to determine slot allocations. Final admissions and waiting lists will follow on Sept. 16, with formal enrollment for accepted candidates running from Sept. 21 through Sept. 28.
Expanded Discipline Offerings Across City Facilities
The municipal program spans a wide array of activities designed for different age brackets, ranging from children as young as six years old to seniors over 65 and 80. The curriculum adapts its physical intensity and training methods to the specific needs of each age tier. Available sports and wellness choices include swimming, athletics, badminton, boxing, fencing, judo, tennis, padel, artistic roller skating, water polo, rock climbing, aikido, bujutsu, gymnastics, yoga, pilates, Nordic walking, zumba, dance, and general conditioning.
Sports Councilor Manuel Vázquez noted that the program’s core aim is to help residents of all ages integrate physical activity into their daily routines through an accessible, widespread network of municipal facilities. Vázquez also emphasized sport’s role as a tool for social cohesion and active living, recalling that Mayor Inés Rey established sports promotion as a core strategic objective of her administration back in 2019.
Venue Network and Eligibility Criteria
Activities will run across a mix of directly managed municipal venues and specialized sites, including the San Diego Municipal Sports Complex and the San Amaro Municipal Swimming Pool. Additional sessions will take place at Riazor, the Torre Sports City, Barrio das Flores, Os Rosales, Novo Mesoiro, Sagrada Familia, San Francisco Xabier, and the Casa da Auga facility.
The application guidelines stipulate that each participant may submit a single form listing up to two activities in order of preference. If a candidate secures a spot in their first-choice activity, the second option is automatically canceled. Priority rules favor registered residents of A Coruña, while also accounting for whether an applicant is already enrolled in existing EDM programs.
