Carlton Young Gun Sam Walsh took home the “Mark of the Year” award in his second AFL season.
The Blues’ seventh round loss to Port Adelaide was a heartbreak. Robbie Gray sealed the victory for the Power after the Siren.
Still, Walsh’s mark was a permanent high point as he ran back on the flight and plunged into a group of players that included monster power striker Charlie Dixon.

Congratulations to AFL on choosing Sam Walsh for Brand of the Year. Courage in person. Usually seduced by sportiness and hangar which is great to see but my voice is the one that angels are afraid to kick.
Show the outrage over Sam Walsh for winning the time of the year. It wasn’t always about taking hangars – that was a good, solid, tough grade # Brownlow2020#AFL

“That brand was inspiring,” said King on Fox Footy after the brand.
“I have a feeling that the Carlton troops will gather after seeing this action by one of your young stars.
“We know he’s great, we know he’s a ball accumulator, he has guns. But I wasn’t convinced that he was an operator going back on the flight.
“This is a fantastic piece.”
Despite Walsh’s courage to achieve the goal, more than some were stunned by the decision.
