Glücksburg, Germany – The TSV Glücksburg 09 badminton section is gearing up for a landmark event: the 40th annual Badminton Osterturnier, taking place from April 3rd to April 5th, 2026. What began in 1985 as a novel idea from the then-badminton section leader has blossomed into a regional competition attracting players from across Germany, including North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, and Berlin.
The tournament kicks off on Good Friday, April 3rd, with an opening reveal followed by the mixed doubles competition, where men and women team up. Saturday, April 4th, will see players battle it out in the doubles event, and those with energy remaining will compete in the singles tournament on Sunday, April 5th. The tournament isn’t just about on-court action; organizers have planned a series of off-court activities to enhance the experience for participants.
DKMS Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive
Adding a charitable dimension to the event, half of the proceeds from the tournament’s tombola will be donated to the Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei (DKMS), the German Bone Marrow Donor File. To further support this cause, a DKMS registration drive for potential stem cell donors will be held on Easter Saturday, from 10:00 to 18:00, outside the tournament hall. This provides an opportunity for attendees and locals to potentially save a life.
A Four-Decade Tradition
The Osterturnier’s story began in 1985, distinguished from the outset by its timing over the Easter holiday. Remarkably, the tournament has been held every Easter since its inception, with the sole exception of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation. Over the years, the tournament has grown in popularity, drawing competitors not only from the surrounding area but from further afield.
Jasmin Bork, the current badminton section leader and chief organizer of the tournament, expressed her excitement about the milestone anniversary. “We have set ourselves the goal of celebrating a special ‘anniversary’ and offering the participants even more than in previous years,” she said. Players can discover more information about the tournament and planned activities on the club’s Instagram channel, tsv_gluecksburg_09, where updates and highlights will be shared throughout the event.
Beyond the competitive matches, attendees can look forward to a traditional cafeteria, a Saturday evening barbecue, and a Friday night pub quiz. Saturday evening will transform the Rudehalle into a dance floor, and a tombola with attractive prizes and a photo booth will add to the festive atmosphere.
The Badminton Osterturnier represents more than just a sporting event; it’s a community gathering and a testament to the enduring appeal of badminton. The tournament’s longevity speaks to the dedication of the organizers and the enthusiasm of the players who return year after year. It’s a celebration of sport, community, and a commitment to a good cause.
For those planning to attend or follow the action, the tournament runs from April 3rd, starting at 10:00, through April 5th, concluding at 16:00. Keep an eye on the TSV Glücksburg 09 Instagram page for live updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the 40th anniversary celebration.
