Kenneth Walker III Dominates the Ground Game in Chiefs Debut
Walker carried the ball 23 times for 173 yards, adding three catches for 18 yards and another score. His 173 rushing yards mark the highest individual rushing total for a Kansas City player since Jamaal Charles ran for 226 yards against the Indianapolis Colts in 2012.

Walker broke open the game to start the third quarter, turning a fourth-and-1 handoff at his own 40-yard line into a 60-yard touchdown scamper after slipping past defender Riley Moss.

Patrick Mahomes Returns and the Offense Clicks
While Walker carried the ground load, Mahomes managed the game effectively while wearing a protective brace on his left knee. He completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, throwing two touchdown passes and rushing for another 15-yard score. The Chiefs outgained Denver significantly, rushing 38 times for 220 yards while holding the Broncos to just 176 total yards of offense.
Kansas City seized control late in the first half when a 10-play, 80-yard drive ended with Mahomes finding Rashee Rice for a short touchdown. Rice, returning from a knee injury of his own, caromed off multiple defenders to push the lead to 14-7 at halftime.
Denver Broncos Struggle in Offensive Opener
The reigning AFC West champions faced a miserable night in Davis Webb’s debut as offensive playcaller. Quarterback Bo Nix completed 17 of 28 passes for 131 yards, throwing an interception and losing a fumble late in the third quarter that dashed any hopes of a comeback.
Denver’s high-profile offseason acquisition, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle—acquired via trade from Miami—was largely neutralized by the Kansas City defense. Waddle finished the night with just one catch for 2 yards on three targets, including a costly drop on a third down during the second half.
Tight end Evan Engram provided the lone offensive bright spot for the visitors, hauling in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Nix in the second quarter and finishing with four receptions for 43 yards. But the Broncos ground game stalled entirely, managing only 61 yards on 15 carries.

Off the field, the matchup drew considerable attention as Taylor Swift attended the game at Arrowhead Stadium alongside Tom Cruise to support Travis Kelce. The victory snaps a three-game skid against Denver and hands the Chiefs an early-season statement win inside the AFC West.
