San Severo, Italy – The Istituto Tecnico Economico Statale “Angelo Fraccacreta” (ITES Fraccacreta) is once again demonstrating its commitment to athletic development and the values of sportsmanship. Students from the school recently participated with notable success in the provincial stages of the 2026 Nuovi Giochi della Gioventù (New Youth Games), showcasing both individual talent and strong team cohesion.
Throughout the final weeks of March, ITES Fraccacreta athletes competed across a range of disciplines, achieving impressive results and solidifying the school’s reputation as a hub for sporting excellence. The school’s participation underscores a broader educational philosophy that views sport not merely as competition, but as an integral component of personal growth and civic responsibility.
Swimming, Badminton, Volleyball and Basketball Highlight Recent Successes
The school’s athletes were actively involved in competitions spanning several sports. On March 25th, the swimming team competed in the 3rd category for males at the “ACSD Pentotary” center in Foggia, demonstrating a solid technical foundation. The following day, March 26th, brought a particularly successful showing in badminton at the I.C. “Vittorino Da Feltre – Zingarelli” in Foggia.
In badminton, the 3rd category saw ITES Fraccacreta students secure second-place finishes in the men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles events. The 2nd category athletes likewise performed admirably, earning third-place honors in men’s singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles. This strong performance across multiple categories highlights the depth of talent within the school’s badminton program.
The volleyball team, competing in the 2nd category for males, advanced to the provincial semi-finals on March 28th, playing at the Polo Tecnologico “Di Sangro Minuziano Alberti.” Beyond the individual sport competitions, ITES Fraccacreta also participated in a district basketball game, fostering a spirit of healthy competition among secondary schools in San Severo.
School Leadership and Coaches Celebrate Student Achievements
The accomplishments of the ITES Fraccacreta athletes have been met with praise from school leadership. Dirigente Scolastica (Headmistress) Prof.ssa Maria Soccorsa Colangelo lauded the students’ dedication and sportsmanship throughout the competitions. She emphasized the importance of fair play and respect, values that the school actively promotes.
Colangelo also recognized the crucial role played by the school’s sports group teachers – Elisabetta Rubino, Marina Villani, and Elena Sallustio – who provided consistent preparation and guidance to the students. Their dedication and expertise were instrumental in the team’s success.
Sport as an Extension of the Classroom: Fostering Values Beyond Competition
ITES Fraccacreta views sports participation as more than just athletic achievement. It’s seen as a valuable extension of the classroom, providing opportunities to develop essential life skills. The school emphasizes the importance of inclusivity, aiming to provide every student with the chance to participate and experience the benefits of teamwork, resilience, and respect for opponents.
“The primary educational goal,” Colangelo stated, “remains the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. Through sport, our students learn to manage daily challenges, understanding that physical and mental well-being, and respect for the rules, are the foundation for becoming responsible citizens.” She further explained that inclusive participation is vital, allowing students to celebrate diversity and solidarity.
The school also recognizes the value of sports in teaching teamwork, emotional management – both in victory and defeat – and the ability to view opponents as friendly competitors. These skills, Colangelo noted, are directly aligned with the transversal teaching of Civic Education.
The ITES Fraccacreta’s commitment to sports extends beyond simply winning games. It’s about cultivating well-rounded individuals who embody the values of fair play, respect, and dedication – qualities that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Congratulations to all the athletes and the dedicated teachers who made this journey of excellence and humanity possible.
