Tlaxcala, Mexico – The second edition of the Copa Presidente de Tiro con Arco is underway in Tlaxcala, Mexico, drawing a record-breaking field of over 600 archers from across the country. The competition, which began on March 18th and runs through March 22nd, is being held at the Ciudad Deportiva de Alto Rendimiento in Apizaco and is quickly establishing itself as a key event on the national archery calendar.
The tournament features competitors across a wide range of divisions – including youth, masters, and para archery – all vying for a spot in international competitions. For able-bodied athletes, the Copa Presidente serves as a crucial qualifier for the Pan American Games in Medellín, Colombia. Meanwhile, para archers are using the event as preparation for the 2026 continental cycle. The event’s growing prestige is underscored by a 150,000 peso prize pool, according to the Instituto del Deporte de Tlaxcala (IDET).
The atmosphere at the Ciudad Deportiva has been described as one of intense focus and precision, as both established athletes and rising stars compete for advancement. This year’s Copa Presidente marks a significant increase in participation, solidifying Tlaxcala’s reputation as a capable host for both national and international archery events. The competition is being held on the athletics track within the Ciudad Deportiva, and is free and open to the public.
Thursday, March 19th, saw the completion of the qualifying rounds. Today, March 20th, features individual matches across the women’s, men’s, and para archery divisions. The weekend will be dedicated to team competitions in both compound and recurve disciplines, culminating in the finals and awards ceremonies on Saturday, March 21st, and Sunday, March 22nd.
This event builds on the success of the inaugural Copa Presidente, held from April 30th to May 4th, 2025, at the Estadio Tlahuicole in Tlaxcala. That first edition attracted over 500 archers and served as a key component of the selection process for para archery and youth world championships, further cementing Tlaxcala’s position as a hub for the sport.

The growing popularity of the Copa Presidente underscores the increasing interest in archery within Mexico. Tlaxcala’s ability to host events of this caliber speaks to the region’s commitment to developing the sport and providing a platform for athletes to excel. For those unfamiliar, archery competitions test not only physical skill, but also mental fortitude and precision under pressure. The different disciplines – recurve and compound – utilize varying bow technologies and scoring systems, adding layers of complexity and strategy to the sport.

As the Copa Presidente de Tiro con Arco progresses, all eyes will be on the athletes as they battle for supremacy and the chance to represent Mexico on the international stage. The next major event on the horizon for many of these archers is the Pan American Games in Medellín, Colombia, where they will aim to showcase their skills and secure valuable ranking points.
