In a busy classic, Santos and Corinthians were tied 1-1 on Thursday night (22), in a game in the fifth round of the Campeonato Paulista, in Vila Belmiro.
Yuri Alberto was the main highlight of the night. In 15 minutes of the first stage, Corinthians’ number 9 suffered a penalty, wasted the charge and shortly afterwards scored the only goal of the match with a beautiful left shot.
In stoppage time, Santos’ equalizer came. From a free kick, Gabigol hit hard and counted on a mistake from Hugo Souza to give the final numbers to the game.
With the result, the teams are tied with 5 points on the leaderboard. Timão is 8th, while Santos is 9th.
The game
The classic started off lively in Vila Belmiro. Yuri Alberto, Timão’s number 9, missed a penalty and opened the scoring in a space of two minutes, in a game against the team that revealed it.
The first move came at 12 minutes. The number 9 made a beautiful individual play and was brought down by Zé Ivaldo inside the area for the penalty to be awarded. From the kick, Yuri Alberto finished out of the goal. Two minutes later, the center forward redeemed himself. Matheus Bidu finished, Gabriel Brazão rebounded and the number 9 took advantage: he dominated, pulled to the left and hit Gabriel Brazão’s counterfoot.
With the score favorable, Timão dominated the game and had practically no scares in defense. With five players in midfield, Dorival Júnior’s team remained in the attacking field, using inversions between Matheuzinho and Bidu and with Yuri Alberto winning the moves against the Santos defense. Despite the dominance, the game went into halftime with 1-0.
The second stage started more competitively, with many fouls made by both teams. In just over 15 minutes, referee Lucas Canetto Bellote handed out four yellow cards to Santos players and three to Corinthians players. Furthermore, both coaches were also punished with yellow cards.
The first dangerous arrival was from Corinthians. Raniele advanced from the left and the ball fell to Yuri Alberto, who invaded the area, crossed and saw the ball pass by everyone. Then, it was André’s turn to hit Brazão from outside the area without any fear.
Santos then improved in the match and made a great blitz in attack. In a sequence of three corners, the ball fell to Gabigol on two occasions, but stopped at Yuri Alberto and then kicked out.
After a long time, Corinthians returned to the attack in the 42nd minute. Gustavo Henrique launched and Matheus Bidu hit hard for Gabriel Brazão’s defense.
During the extra minutes, the referee awarded a controversial foul from Gustavo Henrique at the edge of the area. On the charge, Gabigol took a strong charge and counted on a mistake from Hugo Souza to tie the duel at Vila Belmiro.
