After completely dominating James Duckworth (6-1, 6-4, 6-2) in the second round of the Australian Open, Jannik Sinner analyzed his performance at a press conference.
« I am satisfied. Has there been improvement in all aspects compared to the first round? It’s hard for me to say. Every game is different.
The conditions were completely different today: colder but not as windy, which made it easier to play.
I tried to play aggressively according to my game plan. The opponent served well and played quickly from the baseline. » he said.
New life on tour
Away from the turmoil of his early tour days, the Italian admits he has made major changes to his tour life.
« In the first few years of the tour, I spent a lot of time on the tournament grounds, in locker rooms and restaurants.
But now things have changed. After training, I eat quickly and leave right away. »
Djokovic and Wawrinka: sources of inspiration
Lastly, the highlight of the press conference was when the world number two mentioned two tennis greats, Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka.
« Novak Djokovic is still playing at 38. Stan Wawrinka won a match of nearly 5 hours at age 40. Why is tennis so attractive?
I’ll be able to answer that question when I’m 30, I don’t know. My greatest luck as a 24-year-old is that I have chosen to do what I love: playing tennis and having the opportunity to travel the world.
Like everything, there are downsides, but tennis gives me a lot personally. We live in the moment: some happy, some not.
But what Nole and Stan are doing inspires me, and playing at that level at that age is amazing. »
