Dhe sudden separation between Manchester United and coach Rúben Amorim may have had its origins when he took office. In his first press conference in November 2024, the Portuguese responded to a question about his influence on possible player transfers by saying that although he does not have the final say, he has a significant responsibility. “I am the manager, the head coach,” Amorim explained, emphasizing that he was responsible for selecting the players. A notable detail that received little attention at the time was his explicit job description as both “manager” and “head coach.” The club, however, introduced him exclusively as “Head Coach” in an official announcement – a first in the club’s almost 150-year history. Until then, Manchester United had always referred to their coaches as “managers”.
