We are already in Alula. Yanbu is behind us and, unlike Sunday’s stage, this Monday I felt very good from the first … moment on the motorcycle. It was a long day, 400 kilometers, although even longer days are coming in the coming days. Starting with this Tuesday (736 km).
I started a little behind, out of position and had to overtake quite a few motorcycles. It was uncomfortable, because there was a lot of dust and little wind, so you had to be very careful to find the right moment to pass your partner.
Regarding whether it is better to go in a group or close to another motorcycle to avoid getting lost in the desert, I think it is better to go on your own. It is true that there are pilots in front of me who are leaving their mark on the ground and helping. Where you can get lost the most is when you go on hard tracks that leave no mark on the ground and suddenly you stop seeing references on the ground. You are always paying attention to the navigation, but many times you are following the marks left by the tires of the drivers in front and you can get scared.
I also have to say that I don’t like riding in a pack with people because of the dust that rises and the vision problems it causes. Furthermore, many times you can go behind someone and if they make a mistake, you also end up making a mistake from behind. I am of the opinion that it is better to go alone.
It was a very tough stage, again with many areas of stones and rocks. We rode through quite long canyons, 20 kilometer stretches of pure rock that forced you to be very much on the bike. He was very attached and that consumes you a lot. It was a very demanding, very hard day, in which we had to survive and we did. I arrived in position 66.
Work done so far and so far I can’t complain about how it’s going. I have passed the first two stages successfully and I have felt quite good. This Monday there were also quite fast areas that allowed you to relax and catch your breath, but I insist, in general it was a grinding stage from which I emerged quite successfully.
I feel very well, with a lot of energy, although obviously tired as I write these lines. Normal after a stage like this, so demanding for all the drivers. I am happy with what I am giving and I am very motivated to continue the adventure.
Finally, a topic that has been widely discussed in recent hours is the fall that Canet suffered when avoiding a camel that was on the road. This Monday I didn’t come across any, but on Sunday in Yanbu I did see more than one. You have to be careful, because one can appear at any time and it is not always easy to avoid them at the speed at which we are going.
