A provocative question, which however conceals an objective reality and not a criticism of the very talented Cooper Flagg: the 2026 Draft is full of talent, so we need to talk about it – even exaggerating.
In this AtG column, The Usual Prospectswe’re talking about bold young people with prospects NBA. To make people understand how much talent there is in Draft 2026however, it is necessary to start from a provocation, which is becoming particularly popular in the United States: in the next Draft class, how low would a (even) phenomenon like Cooper Flagg? Some say outside the top-3, others crazy takes like top-6 or top-7. From this question, we will therefore examine who these fantastic talents are, potentially capable of overshadowing the Dallas Mavericks rookie, focusing on the qualities of each, but without hiding the defects.
The method in these situations is the classic one for anyone with a minimum of familiarity with the Draft, and therefore with its simulations, so many months after the lottery. One is excluded Mock Drafta simulation that pairs players and teams based on mutual needs, for obvious reasons: We don’t have the definitive NBA records, so you can’t even sketch out a lottery order. We then proceed with a further abstraction, the so-called Draft Board
That is, we will draw up a list of those who, in our opinion, are the better prospects. “Best” does not mean the strongest or most complete at the time of the Draft, but there is usually a time frame within which the player can develop and grow to the point of becoming better than another. All based on skillset as it relates to the NBA, and so on. To simplify, the board will be divided into categories, called Tierdivided into colors based on expectations: first tier, future All-NBA; second tier, borderline All-NBA, and so on.
The leading names are Cam Boozer, Darryn Peterson and AJ Dybantsabut certainly not the only ones to talk about. For this reason, without further ado, we leave you with the video where we explain how many prospects from the 2026 Draft would potentially be capable of displacing Flagg from the top, and for what reasons.
