Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote signed a return to competition far from what was expected after the World Cup break. The Lanzarote team fell clearly against AtticGo BM Elche by 20 to 33 in a match played at the Argana Sports Palace, where the locals never managed to get into the game or find answers to the solidity and order of the visiting team.
From the beginning, the clash leaned towards the Elche side. The Lanzarote team came out wrong, without fluidity in attack and without finding the necessary spaces to harm the defense set up by the team led by Joaquín Rocamora. Adverse circumstances were added to the offensive problems in the early stages: an early exclusion, two missed seven-meter throws and the injury to Marie Louis, which forced the player to leave the match.
AtticGo BM Elche, on the other hand, was very confident in all phases of the game. Their defensive work unsettled Zonzamas, causing numerous errors in passes and shots that were effectively punished in the counterattack and in positional play. The scoreboard soon reflected the difference between both teams and, despite the fact that Juan Rivera requested a time-out with 10’54” left before half-time, with a worrying 4-9 in the provisional light, the script of the game did not change.
The visitors continued to find the goal with ease against a weak home defense, while Zonzamas remained in tow, unable to reduce the gap. At half-time, the score was 8-15, leaving the match very uphill for the Lanzarote team.
The second half further accentuated Elche’s superiority. Far from reacting, the local team saw how the difference increased progressively. Halfway through the second period, with the score at 14-24, the Lanzarote coach once again requested a time-out in search of an emergency solution. Zonzamas then chose to attack with seven players, sacrificing the goal to gain offensive bite and try to break the rival defense, but the bet did not pay off.
Not even an exclusion from the visiting team, which gave a significant numerical advantage to the local team, was taken advantage of. Elche maintained control of the game and increased the lead against a Zonzamas lacking confidence and success. The last minutes, with the game already decided, became more of an exercise in resistance than a real search for an impossible comeback.
The match concluded with a resounding 20 to 33, which faithfully reflects the superiority of AtticGo BM Elche and leaves Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote in a delicate situation in the qualifying table. The Lanzarote team will close the year and the first round of the season with a demanding trip to the Rocasa Gran Canaria field next Sunday, December 21, an event that will require an immediate reaction to regain sensations and confidence.
