Last Friday San Lorenzo de El Escorial celebrated the 25th edition of its traditional Sports Gala. An event that rewards athletes who have stood out for their achievements and contributions to the development of sports in the municipality during the year.
73 winners at the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Sports Gala
On this occasion, the total number of winners is 73 athletes; among the disciplines: Chess; Athletics; Aquathlon; Badminton; Cycling; Enduro; Fencing; Artistic Gymnastics; Rhythmic Gymnastics and Swimming. In addition, two Sports Merit Medals will be awarded to the athlete Julia Maroto Herranz and the sports journalist Eduardo Aguirre Redecilla.
Julia Maroto, medal for sporting merit
Julia Maroto has represented the Community of Madrid on several occasions, in Spanish Championships by federations; both on track and cross country. She has participated with the team from sub-16 to senior level and has established herself as one of the best in the specialty in Madrid. He has won the regional championships of 400, 800 and 1500 ml. In 2023 he won his first individual medal at the national level, achieving bronze in the 800 ml event in Salamanca. After that, he has achieved several more bronzes, two silvers and has almost won gold in this last Spanish championship.
Edu Aguirre
Edu Aguirre’s journalistic career has developed mainly in the sports field. His participation in programs such as The Jugones Chiringuito, where he has become known for his coverage of Real Madrid. He started as an intern at the newspaper Mark and worked on other programs such as soccer players y TikiTaka. Currently, in addition to his work in The Chiringuitohe works and collaborates with Movistar, the COPE network and the newspaper As. In his interventions as a journalist, he often mentions his roots as an athlete in San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
During the Sports Gala, the mayor, Carlota López Esteban, highlighted that “We pay tribute to those who, with their daily perseverance, bear the name of San Lorenzo to every workout; to each competition and to each new goal achieved. Sport is much more than results. It is discipline, camaraderie, respect and improvement and those honored today are the best example of all of this.”
