Sad European campaign for women’s Paris Saint-Germain. Beaten by Wolfsburg, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the first four Champions League matches, the Parisiennes had no other choice but to win this Tuesday against Louvain. This was not the case, with a disappointing draw at the Parc des Princes and elimination from the competition.
This early elimination marks a clear decline for PSG in the hierarchy. The capital’s players have not won a C1 match since a quarter-final return against Häcken (3-0) in March 2024. Last season, the capital club was eliminated in the play-offs by Juventus Turin (3-1/2-1).
This year PSG lost their first four Champions League matches. The team, however, remained on a convincing success on the ground of Olympique de Marseille (5-1) in Arkéma Première Ligue, where it is second behind OL Lyonnes, who plays at Manchester United on Wednesday.
Never really dangerous despite their overall domination at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, Paulo César’s players only had a few chances, through the Nigerian Jennifer Echegini (45th + 1) or the Brazilian Vitoria Yaya (15th, 53rd). Dutchwoman Romée Leuchter also missed a few centimeters to take a cross from Olga Carmona (59th) and Griedge Mbock sent a final opportunity over the crossbar (90th + 3).
