Julian Brandt broke his wrist at the club World Cup!
In the last group game against Ulsan HD (final score 1-0), the BVB star again appeared with a rail on the left wrist when he was substituted. Brandt had already contracted the injury in the first group game against the Brazilian representative Fluminense (final score: 0: 0).
Brandt: “It is a nasty area”
“I broke my wrist in the 10th minute against Fluminensee. That’s why I have to wear the rail now, there is no way around. Unfortunately, a tape is no longer enough,” Brand clarified after the game in the mixed zone.
Brandt suffered the broken wrist without an opponent. “I slipped and just landed,” explained Brandt.
The affected area is the scabbing. “It is a nasty area because it doesn’t heal so well. But I am a doctor’s outstanding. Only the rail is a bit annoying,” the 29-year-old struggled.

It is still open whether Brandt has to be operated on. “Maybe I’m lucky and can get around an operation. It always sounds worse than it is. It’s not a big thing,” he said.
At the press conference, coach Kovac commented on Brandt’s injury. “He has an investigation tomorrow. Then will see if something has happened. We do not hope that something has shifted, otherwise it could certainly lead to an operation. We will know that tomorrow,” clarified Kovac.
Borussia Dortmund is the winner of Group F in the round of 16 at the club World Cup and meets the second of Group E. That would be either River Plate, Inter Milan or CF Monterrey. The opponent is determined on Thursday night (from 3 a.m. CEST).
