David Moyes faces the most important game of his career with West Ham United. The Scottish manager will take on Fiorentina with his team in the final of the Conference League on Wednesday.
“I started coaching at 35 and have had a good career,” Moyes said at a press conference in Prague on Tuesday. “I’ve played over a thousand games and been in finals and promotions, but this is the biggest moment.”
“Whether you are a new coach or an experienced coach like me, sometimes it takes you 20 years to coach a final like this. It’s great to be here for a European final. It’s about the highest thing you can achieve as a coach.”
Moyes is one of the most experienced managers in the Premier League. He was successfully active for Everton for more than eleven years and made the switch to Manchester United in 2013. He did win the Community Shield with ‘The Red Devils’, but was already fired in his first season.
After that, Moyes had Real Sociedad and Sunderland under his wing. He has been manager of West Ham United since the end of 2017, with which he reached the Conference League final. In the semi-final battle, the English were too strong for AZ.
‘Hope I can give my father something special’
There is a good chance that David Moyes Sr. will also be present at the Conference League final in Prague. The proud father of the West Ham coach visited all European away games of the London club this season.
“I think he’s watching in a pub,” joked Moyes jr. “It’s a special game not only for me, but for my whole family. I hope we can celebrate something beautiful. It’s always special when you do something as a son achieved that you can be proud of. I hope I can give my father something special.”
The Conference League final between West Ham United and Fiorentina starts on Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the Fortuna Arena in Prague.
