Australian Open | Murray acclaimed, Djokovic hailed: Our consultants choose their favorite moment

Boris Becker: The emotion of Djokovic

Summarizing an Australian Open is always a difficult exercise. There are so many strong moments, emotions, incredible battles. Choosing one is almost impossible… But I can only choose Novak Djokovic’s 10th title. He now has 22 Grand Slam titles!

It was far from being written in advance: the stats that set this Australian Open apart

I’m thinking particularly when he got into his “box”… There was his brother, his mother, he was surrounded and there was a lot of emotion. He even cried… It’s a moment we will never forget.

The weight of emotion: Djokovic collapses in tears once his 10th Australian Open is in his pocket

Tim Henman: The Works of Andy Murray

There have been so many great moments in this Australian Open 2023 but for me Andy Murray is standout. His first two matches against Berrettini and Kokkinakis. The effort he had to put in to stay on the court for 10 hours and get away with it each time in these two epic battles… It’s an incredible performance. He didn’t have enough fuel for the duel against Bautista Agut but for me these are excellent signs for the rest of the season. I hope Andy Murray can build on that.

A titanic battle and Murray’s stubbornness paid off: highlights of his success

Alizé Lim: The beautiful story Magda Linette

It’s not a moment but a story: Magda Linette. She is 30 years old and reveals herself at this point in her career to reach the semi-finals, it’s huge! She finally found her confidence and created surprise after surprise, beating Alexandrova, Garcia and Pliskova and then really giving Aryna Sabalenka a hard time in the 1st set. This is definitely my favorite story from this tournament.

Mats Wilander: Luck smiled on Rublev

The best moment for me was the match between Holger Rune and Andrey Rublev. Rune was in front the entire game, including the super tie-break. Rublev confessed that he no longer thought about winning and the way he won the point on the match point… The ball hit the net board and this time luck was on his side. Why ? Because it was fair! Andrey Rublev is an amazing guy, he works so hard. Being a good person sometimes brings you a little extra luck.

Winning comeback… with the net: Rublev’s lucky match point

Barbara Schett: Murray the Warrior, Sabalenka the Champion

On the men’s side, my favorite moment was obviously the Andy Murray tournament. The way he came back after being down two sets to nil by Matteo Berrettini was absolutely incredible. He won again against Kokkinakis and the atmosphere was great. A lot of people didn’t believe he could fight like that on the court anymore, a lot of people thought he didn’t have that in him anymore. He proved them wrong.

On the women’s side, I choose Aryna Sabalenka. She worked so hard for it, she stopped so many times in the semi-finals. She surprised everyone. Once the match point was converted, she lay on the ground, emotions overwhelmed her. She played phenomenal tennis. She really deserved to win this first Grand Slam. It was a very beautiful moment.

A little fragile… then so solid: how Sabalenka brought Rybakina to heel

John McEnroe: Ben Shelton and the return of American tennis

In the United States, we feel that we are close to returning to the front of the stage on the men’s side. This kid, Ben Shelton, I really like him. I love everything about him. He’s a breath of fresh air. He has personality, he is a good boy. I like the way he expresses himself on the pitch. He’s fighting. His story is awesome. The fact that he’s never left the country before, you know, I think he’s someone we can follow closely. So he’s the symbol of American tennis finally coming back to the men’s scene and that’s why I want to choose it as my favorite moment of the tournament.

Paul, Korda, Shelton… The next generation of American tennis is here

Laura Robson: Murray, the diehard

Personally, I choose Andy Murray. He fought to the end in the 3rd round after finishing at 4 am two days earlier… I’m so happy to have been there and to have witnessed this, to have seen at the unleashes its fierce competitive side.

The net had chosen its camp: the very lucky match point of Murray which eliminates Berrettini
