The Norwegian tennis player comfortably beat the Russian and will face off this Sunday against the five-time winner of the masters tournament

Casper Ruud closes the best year of his career with a new final, this time at the ATP Finals. The Norwegian tennis player got rid of Andrey Rublev, number 7 in the world, with surprising ease, 6-2, 6-4, reaching his third major event of the year after Roland Garros and the US Open.

The match began evenly, but Ruud broke the Russian’s serve to make it 3-2 and service, and from then on he was not going to lift his foot off the accelerator until he overcame a blurred Rublev, who showed signs throughout the match that he was not be comfortable on the track.

The second set was a carbon copy of the first, with the Norwegian dominating with his forehand and breaking the Russian’s serve up to two times. 23 unforced errors from a Rublev who gave up too easily in an ATP Finals semifinal that lasted barely an hour. The key to the match and Ruud’s level in this tournament is, without a doubt, the improvement in his serve, which, added to his great forehand, makes him a dangerous player on hard court as well.

Ruud will face off on Sunday against Novak Djokovic. The Norwegian, given the opportunity to close his best season on a personal level with a flourish. The Serbian, however, will seek to equal Roger Federer’s six ATP Finals titles.
