An iron group for theItalia in the next edition of World classic of baseball scheduled from 8 to 21 March. There are several “firsts” in the fifth edition of the tournament that assigns the title of world champion. The blues of Mike Piazza, for example, they will play in the Taiwan group and not in the United States as in previous races. The teams competing, therefore, will be 20 and not 16 as it had been until now.
Italy – which in the world ranking of the world confederation of baseball and softball is in 17th place – will take the field from 8 to 12 March – but the calendar is not yet defined – at the Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan and will have to contend with the hosts (second in the Wbsc ranking), iWhen (8°), Cuba (9°) e Panama (13 °). For the Azzurri – who have always taken part in the tournament, reaching the second phase in 2013 – there is group “A” of the tournament, while in Japan the matches of that B (Tokyo Dome) will be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, in Arizona, those of group C with the reigning champions of the United States and at Loan Depot Park in Miami, Florida, those of group D.
The quarter-finals will be played in Tokyo (15-16 March) with the first of groups A and B and Miami (17-18 March), with the queens of groups C and D. From 19 to 21 March semifinals and finals at LoanDepot Park in Miami, which will see another “first time”: the plant, in fact, will host the three phases in a single edition. It never happened.
