Brooklyn won’t match offers for Nic Claxton

Nic Claxton is one week away from becoming a restricted free agent. This implies that the Brooklyn Nets could match any offer the player receives from other franchises to retain him in New York. However, the information that is handled in the circles of the league is that the Nets would not be willing to keep him at the price that is stipulated for him.

Today Jonathan Feigen writes in the Houston Chronicle with Claxton as a possible target for the Rockets in free agency. The Texas franchise has a midlevel exception that allows it to absorb a $10.5 million-a-year contract. Just the price that is estimated to be worth the still center of the Nets. In a offseason in which it seems that there are several interiors that can end up changing the air, Claxton is still a very good option for teams lacking an interior presence. In fact, he has already been invaluable to Brooklyn as a center solely focused on tasks normally viewed as “fringe.”
