The angry Dresden mob penetrated into the Dynamo team bus

The victory of 1. FC Kaiserslautern at Dynamo Dresden, which has to be relegated to the 3rd division for the fourth time in the club’s history, is accompanied by ugly scenes in the stands. But that was just foreplay. After the game, the madness reached its climax.

A handful of chaotic people even made it into the cabin area – and from there to the team bus, which was ready to depart. At least one of the mob is said to have made it onto the team bus and insulted and spat on the frightened players. Serious fisticuffs are said not to have happened. After a few minutes, the spook was over and the police arrived.
According to the Dresden police, two folders were injured in the incident. “A group of around 30 unknown home fans is also under investigation. The group had illegally gained access to the stadium building,” it said in a statement. Because of this action, investigations into breach of the peace are ongoing.
Dynamo’s managing director Jürgen Wehlend reacted with horror to the incidents. “With all understanding for this frustration, which everyone involved in the club shares and feels the same way, the behavior of some Dynamo fans towards the end of the game and especially afterwards is completely unacceptable. A clear limit was crossed with the violent entry into the dressing room wing, in which two stewards were injured, and the threats to players, coaches and employees,” he said.
Dynamo Dresden is now facing groundbreaking weeks after the fourth relegation in 16 years. The contracts of sports director Ralf Becker and coach Guerino Capretti are not valid for the 3rd division. After the catastrophic second half of the season with the lost relegation against Kaiserslautern as a low point, it is questionable whether the duo has a future in Dresden.
“We were on a decent path for a long time. In the end we somehow lost our way,” Becker described the avoidable descent. Becker also has shares in this, after all, the 51-year-old stuck with coach Alexander Schmidt for a long time and got the wrong successor with Capretti. Dynamo managed the sad feat of not having won a game in 2022. “It is difficult to go into analysis with these negative emotions. That has to be processed first,” said Capretti.
Relegation to the 3rd league is financially manageable
If Dynamo were to separate from Becker and Capretti now, there would be no financial consequences. But then you would have to quickly present two successors who put together the squad together. People in Dresden don’t seem to be prepared for that. In the past few weeks, Becker has indicated several times that he wants to stay in Dresden. His goal is to put together a third division team capable of promotion like two years ago.
The Supervisory Board now decides on this personnel matter. In any case, it is no secret that Becker has already received an offer – regardless of the relegation that was still threatening at the time. Late on Tuesday evening, the head of sports did not want to comment on Sky about his future: “Now let’s see what’s best for the club. But we won’t decide that today.”
The situation around Capretti is different. The occupation of the coaching position is in Becker’s area of responsibility. A restart with the unsuccessful coach should not be possible. Especially since the team couldn’t implement Capretti’s ideas or the coach couldn’t find a way to be successful with the existing player material.
After all, the descent is financially manageable. “It would hit us badly, but not knock us out,” says Managing Director Jürgen Wehlend in the past. The financial strength is there to put together a team that can play for immediate promotion.
There is a lot of work ahead of the traditional Saxon club in the coming days. Numerous player contracts are not valid for the 3rd league, as in 2020, there is a risk of radical change in the squad. The team met one last time on Wednesday, after which they went on vacation. The start of training is scheduled for June 15th. The start of the new third division season will take place on July 22nd.
