Berlin (dpa/bb) – Commemorative events with Russian participation at the end of the Second World War are to be monitored particularly closely by the Berlin police on May 8th and 9th. This was announced by Interior Secretary Torsten Akmann (SPD) on Monday in the Interior Committee. This year, because of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, “a further increase in sensitivity is absolutely necessary” for the events at the Soviet memorials. The police are prepared for that. The Senate assumes that there will be many commemorative events, and the first registrations have already been received. The motorcycle club Nachtwölfe, which is close to the Russian government and has attracted a great deal of attention to Berlin in the past, has not yet registered anything.
