The fourth world tennis player Karolína Plíšková will not start at the January Australian Open. Her right hand injury ruled her out of the opening season of the new season.

The 29-year-old Czech player informed about the cancellation of the tournament in Melbourne on Twitter.

“Unfortunately, I was injured during training and I will not be able to play in Sydney, Adelaide or the Australian Open,” Plíšková wrote.

“I’m sorry I can’t start the season in Australia. I will miss my fans there a lot,” added the finalist of this year’s Wimbledon and the US Open in 2016. Melbourne was the furthest in the semifinals last year.

“Karolína broke her vertebral bone at a training camp in Spain. It happened during training in the gym. She fell unhappily, put her hands under her and her right one was injured,” Plíšková’s husband and manager Michal Hrdlička told the media. “Fortunately, at least nothing complicated. The treatment should take about four weeks,” he said.

Former world number one Plíšková will miss the grand slam tournament for the first time since 2012, when she did not qualify for the US Open. Since then, she has played 35 in a row.

After Plíšková’s resignation, seven Czech tennis players will perform in the main Australian Open competition. The fifth player of the world Barbora Krejčíková, Petra Kvitová, this year’s semifinalist Karolína Muchová, Markéta Vondroušová, Tereza Martincová, Kateřina Siniaková and Marie Bouzková are entered. In men’s singles, Jiří Veselý.
