Preferred candidate Roger Schmidt is said to have canceled RB Leipzig

Roger Schmidt has a past with Red Bull Salzburg. So it’s no wonder that he was also considered a candidate for coaching at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. Now the 54-year-old is said to have canceled the can club.

The search for a coach at Bundesliga club Rasenballsport Leipzig may not come to a quick end. According to a report by “Kicker” Preferred candidate Roger Schmidt the runner-up canceled on Monday to succeed Jesse Marsch. The 54-year-old is currently under contract with the Dutch first division club PSV Eindhoven until the end of the season and wants to fulfill this contract. A timely solution could be Domenico Tedesco, who is currently without a contract.

Leipzig had parted ways with Marsch on Sunday after only 14 Bundesliga matchdays. The 48-year-old succeeded Julian Nagelsmann in the summer, but was unable to stabilize the team’s performance at any time. For the time being, the team will be looked after by Marsch’s assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer. In addition to Tedesco, Dortmund’s technical director Edin Terzic, Mainz coach Bo Svensson and Erik ten Hag from Ajax Amsterdam are traded.

It is unclear whether Roger Schmidt might move to Leipzig in the summer. The former coach of Bayer Leverkusen would be free of charge and then available. Leipzig, however, would have to find an interim solution that would take care of the club until the summer.

Hertha BSC is also looking for a new head coach from the summer. Tayfun Korkut should initially only look after the Berliners until June, Schmidt could then be the solution proposed by sports director Fredi Bobic. It seems that in a few months, Schmidt has several options. Remaining in Eindhoven is also not off the table yet.
