All sports – Olympic Games 2022

The CNOSF announced on Wednesday the modalities for appointing the two flag bearers for the Winter Olympics in Beijing next February. As at the Tokyo Games last July (the judokate Clarisse Agbegnenou and the gymnast Samir Aït Saïd), two flag bearers will open the procession of French athletes at the Beijing Winter Olympics on February 4, 2022. “For their designation, the Executive Board of the CNOSF decided on an unprecedented participatory process, in three stages, mobilizing the federations, the general public and the athletes”, indicates a press release Wednesday. First, the winter Olympic federations (French Ski Federation, French Federation of Ice Sports and French Ice Hockey Federation) will appoint a panel of athletes, according to criteria such as the prize list but also respect and the embodiment of Olympic values. Appointment of the two flag bearers on January 21, 2022 Then, the general public will be called upon to vote, via social networks, in order to choose two “ambassadors” per sport, a man and a woman. All these ambassadors will constitute the college of “grand electors”. They will each have the choice of whether or not to apply for the role of flag bearer. And it will be the ambassadors who will elect, during a plenary assembly scheduled for January 21, 2022, the flag bearers (a woman and a man). The flag bearer unveiling ceremony will take place between January 24 and 27, 2022.
