River and Boca, in Libertadores area

With a new date of the Professional League (17) in full dispute, there are many teams that aspire to get into the International cups next year, a scenario that involves more than half of the First Division teams

And here and now is Boca the one who took another leap towards the Libertadores, since with his victory against Godoy Cruz he reached Talleres in points (52) in the annual table and surpasses him by goal difference (+18 over +13) while waiting for the T to play with River this Thursday. Precisely those led by Gallardo accumulate 57 and Vélez reached 59 after beating Central Córdoba.

Argentine squares

Argentina has six places for the Libertadores 2022. The champion of the new tournament will qualify directly. The same thing that Colón already achieved for having obtained the Professional League Cup and what the one who stays with the Argentine Cup will achieve.

The remaining three places will be obtained by the first three teams in the annual general table, which will include the points obtained in the group stage of the LPF Cup (13 games) and this championship (25 games). In this case, the third team will access the Copa Libertadores Repechage. Thus, they would currently be classifying Colón, Vélez, River, Boca and Workshops. And if Boca gets the Argentina Cup, the sixth would be Estudiantes (who surpasses Lanús on goal difference).

THE POSITIONS TO THE CUPS

LIBERTADORES AREA: Vélez 59 (+21), River 57 (+34), Boca 52 (+18), Talleres 52 (+13) and Colón (51) is already classified as the last local champion.

The annual table.

SOUTH AMERICAN AREA: Students 49 (+14), Lanús 49 (+4), Independiente 44 (+8), Racing 44 (+6) and Unión 41 (-6). Boca and Banfield are classified by the Diego Maradona Cup but the Battaglia team would release the quota upon entering the Libertadores, which Union would take advantage of today.

HOW THE AVERAGE IS CALCULATED

Paragraph one of article 24 of the Regulations of the Professional Football League of the 2021 Tournaments indicates that “at the end of the 2021 Tournaments there will be no decline in the category.” But in the next point it is clarified that the “The points obtained from the general table of positions 2021 will be computed together with those of the season 2019/20 and 2022”. Diego Maradona Cup points will not be taken into account.

The declines will only become effective at the end of 2022, but the amount is not yet defined). When that time comes, in Primera there will be 28 teams (The current 26, plus the two that rise from the First National at the end of this season). It is expected that there will be four to begin to progressively decrease the number of teams in the elite until reaching 22 in 2026.

This is not final, of course, there is a large part of the current tournament and the matches corresponding to the 2022 season (without a defined format).
