Favorites of the Olympic tournament, the men of Team USA are however working a mini-crisis after the defeat against France. Lots of observers cringed after the game, most notably Magic Johnson. The Hall of Famer took the opportunity to say which player was sorely missed in the selection, according to him.

Two years after the defeat at the World Cup in Spain, Team USA thought they could wash away the affront against the France team during these Olympics. And yet, the Blues have put it back, winning 83-76 after an epic match. The most annoying part of all this is that unlike 2019, Gregg Popovich’s men arrived with an inherently much stronger squad.

However, that did not prevent Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard & co. to lose from the outset in the competition. Enough to anger a lot of people in the United States, Magic Johnson in the lead. For the Hall of Famer leader, what the squad lacked is above all a very special player to lead everyone:

Although he was already absent from the tournament in 2016 in Rio, LeBron was indeed a crucial part of Team USA during the campaigns in 2008 and 2012. This year, however, he decided to make the deadlock again, having been injured during a big part of the season. On top of that, the Laker had the release of Space Jam : A New Legacy to manage. Suffice to say he was busy!

But even beyond that, we tell ourselves that Coach Pop’s men should be able to do better. With so much talent and experience in the workforce, the Americans have plenty to dominate any opposition. The next match against Iran must be won, otherwise the tensions in the locker room will intensify...

For Magic Johnson, it is therefore LeBron James that Team USA would need not to lose as against France. Possible, but difficult to say at the moment. On the side of the Blues, we will certainly only remember the victory!
